About Us

Nestled deep in the heart of the rolling eastern Iowa hills is a sleepy quarry town called Stone City.
Standing with authority in the middle of this community is the Stone City General Store. The General Store is a unique, historical event venue along the Wapsipinicon River in beautiful Grant Wood Country. The General Store is one of the most unique locations in the area to host your wedding or private event offering you a tranquil space surrounding you in limestone and beauty. The General Store and Stone City are immortalized in Grant Wood’s famous Stone City painting.

The building was constructed in 1897 of locally quarried limestone. It is likely one of the oldest
buildings in Jones County, Iowa. A two-level deck overlooking the Wapsipinicon River provides a
beautiful outdoor space for drinks before, during and after events. The basement of the General Store is accessible only by stairs. There is no elevator or chairlift in the building. The main level space and bathrooms are handicap accessible.

Event Space options –

Indoors: Provides space to seat 60 to 70 guests on the main level with a buffet and 40 in the basement using the bar for seating as well.

Outdoors: Enjoy beverages at the Grain Bin Bar and deck overlooking the river on nine acres. The
Grain Bin Bar sits directly adjacent to the General Store with a large grassy area. Consider renting a
tent, chairs and tables for larger events offering a unique outdoor space surrounding you in stone and beauty.

Located 30 minutes from Marion, 45 minutes from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, 1 ½ hours or less
from Dubuque, IA.

You have flexibility to use the vendors of your choice for catering, entertainment additional rentals, etc.

The General Store is ready to serve beer, liquor, wine and seltzer/coolers to you and your guests.

We look forward to sharing the building with you,
Tad Larson and Tris Langdon
